About Our Catholic Neighborhood

Our Story – The Journey to the creation of Our Catholic Neighborhood Website

11-2014 - We have still not given up on this mission.  Life has thrown many challenges our way; caring for our elderly parents; health and financial struggles; but we remain optimistic that the changes we wish to make to avail Catholics to get closer to their faith will happen.  We have polled quite a few priests and Bishops to determine what role they feel our website could play in getting Catholics more engaged in their personal faith and their faith community.  Angel investors interested in making a difference please feel free to contact us.  In the meantime, we continue to update and add sites, and to offer Christ's words of wisdom and inspiration to the best of our ability.  Please continue to pray for this vocation!

WE HAVE NOT GIVEN UP!  FINANCES BEING WHAT THEY ARE WE ARE TRYING TO UPDATE OURSELVES USING DRUPAL.  PLEASE HAVE PATIENCE AND PRAY FOR THIS MINISTRY.  SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME. IF ANYONE WHO IS PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR CATHOLIC FAITH AND KNOWS DRUPAL AND FEELS CALLED TO HELP US UPDATE PLEASE CONTACT US.  WE ARE WORKING ON THE LORD'S TIMELINE AND NOT OURS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!

Over the course of the past 8 years we, Dan and Jacquie Roach, with the help of a small team of Catholic individuals, have been painstakingly developing a very comprehensive Catholic website for the benefit of Catholic parishes, entities, groups and individuals.  We are lifelong Catholics residing in Walla Walla, WA, parishioners of St. Patrick Parish, in the Diocese of Spokane.  We were both educated in the Catholic educational system;  Dan, grade school and college, Jacquie, grade school through college, both in Washington state.  We have six children, ranging in age from 26 to 16, all of whom have been educated in the Catholic school system, pre-school through college (at least 4 thus far).

While using the internet to locate Catholic sites we were often frustrated by the non-catholic sites that we would have to “surf” through before discovering the Catholic source we were looking for.  Convinced there was a better way we decided to answer Pope Benedict’s and the Vatican’s challenge to embrace the Internet and utilize its capabilities to evangelize. By creating OCN we are facilitating the expansion of the Catholic faith. It has been a long and hard fought labor of faith.

Our Catholic Neighborhood, OCN, was launched, softly,4 years ago. It can be found at www.ourcatholicneighborhood.com. We are updating the site to version 2, which we plan to launch as soon as finances allow, God willing.  Although the original version reflected our vision of an attractive, uncluttered website entirely free of banner advertising, we realized that it was not as user friendly as it needed to be.  Version 2 will be a significant upgrade providing easier navigation and a better, more appealing interface. The OCN website will become an evangelization tool containing dynamic information with immense capacity and scale that, Catholic entities, groups, businesses, and individuals, will be able to use and contribute content to without needing any technical expertise. WE HAVE NOT GIVEN UP!  FINANCES BEING WHAT THEY ARE WE ARE TRYING TO UPDATE OURSELVES USING DRUPAL.  PLEASE HAVE PATIENCE AND PRAY FOR THIS MINISTRY.  SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

The Vatican has repeatedly stated that now is the time for the Church to embrace the Internet as a tool for evangelization.  With your help Our Catholic Neighborhood will become the universal starting point where people can access copious amounts of information about the Catholic Faith, and the people and organizations that make up the Catholic Church.  Jesus sent his disciples out on foot to evangelize.  We have been given the reach of the Internet to do the same.  We hope and pray that we can mobilize and utilize the tremendous tool of the Internet effectively with the Our Catholic Neighborhood website.

Thank you for visiting Our Catholic Neighborhood. Please pray for its success and please help spread the word about Our Catholic Neighborhood by telling your family, friends, priests and fellow parishioners about the OCN website!!
